We had a great ride this past Sunday, September 23. 18 bikes and 20 riders.
I was so excited that so many of you came out for my maiden voyage as a Road Captain. Mother nature also cooperated as the weather was absolutely perfect for a ride.
So We Begin:
We pulled out of Shari’s around 9:45. Headed down Rohnert Park Expressway to Petaluma Hill Road. Went up Roberts Road to Sonoma Mountain Road than down Bennett Valley Road to Warm Springs Road. If you have not been on these roads, they are very beautiful back roads. We then proceeded to Hwy 12 back towards Santa Rosa. Our first pit stop was at the Valero on Mission Blvd and Hwy 12.
After a nice short break, we headed down Brush Creek to Montecito Blvd to Calistoga Road. Turning Left we headed towards Porter Creek/Mark West Springs Road where we turned Left. WELL….most of us turned left. It is here I made my 1st rookie mistake as a Lead Road Captain. I did not wait at the stop sign for all the bikes to catch up. This led to most of the group turning left but we had a few bikes in the far back that ended up going straight. OH NO, you are saying… but no worries, we caught up with them at our 2nd Pit Stop in Healdsburg.
For the rest of us we continued up Porter Creek to La Franz Valley Road to Hwy 128 which lead us through the beautiful wine country and down to Healdsburg Avenue towards the Chevron Station (our 2nd pit stop) where we were excitedly reunited with the 5 wanderers. After a short break and listening to their story of what happened, my mid sweep (not mentioning names…lol) finally confessed that he should have also stopped and waited for the group but was having such a nice time on the ride and enjoying the scenery that he just kept going. All good though as we all made it back together.
So, on we went down Dry Creek Road, under Hwy 101 to Lambert Bridge Road that lead us to W. Dry Creek Road. This is a gorgeous ride if you have never ridden this side of the County. W. Dry Creek lead us to Westside where we continued enjoying the views of vineyards. Westside lead us to River Road which we followed west to Rio Nido.
We arrived at The Roadhouse around 1:15pm. Had a great lunch.
After lunch everyone went their own way except for a few (Tom, Ken, Vicki and Melisa) that continued west on River Road to Canyonside Road. From here, in order to miss the Sebastopol traffic, 3 of us turned onto Occidental Road and Tom continued straight. Once we reached Fulton, Ken took off and then it was just 2. Ride officially ended around 3:30ish.
Thank you to my sweep and middle sweep and A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that came out to ride with me. It was definitely a memorable ride for me.
