Here’s an update on our 9 day ride thru the northwest and onto Vancouver Island.
Day 1 – 8 bikes and 10 riders left Saturday morning with our first gas/rest stop in Willits. Check out the dinosaur pictures Robyn will post. We had lunch in Eureka staying our 1st night in Crescent City. The weather was fabulous and no fog, so we walked around town.
Day 2 – We headed up 199 into Oregon, stopping for lunch in Crater Lake National Park. Robyn’s daughter and friend met us for lunch, which was a nice treat. Again we were blessed with beautiful weather. After a short Mickey D’s stop for coffee and cookies (this one’s for you Sharon), we stayed the night in Madras, OR.
Day 3 – We headed northwest toward Portland, and rain, but dried out fairly quick. Then we turned east, riding along the Columbia River, to have lunch in The Dalles. It wasn’t the restaurant I planned as that one was unexpectedly closed. But, a local suggested the Baldwin Saloon down the street and it was the best meal I had on our trip! After lunch we headed north to Ellensburg, WA for the night, and boy did we have some strong winds!
Day 4 – Our morning started our beautiful, even with a change of route because of a road closure. Then as we headed over the pass into Belleview area, we hit rain. We were prepared this time. After a stop at the local Harley Davidson shop for a repair on Cathy’s bike and lunch at the same stop, we headed north to Anacortes for the night. We “treated” ourselves to dinner at the local bowling alley…lol!
Day 5 – Ferry to San Juan Island and Friday Harbor where Mike and Linda met us. They took us on a tour of the island and to their favorite lunch and dinner spots.
Day 6 – Ferry to Vancouver Island. 3 members went to Butchart Gardens and I lead the rest of us down the coast to Victoria. We parked the bikes, had lunch and checked out Victoria. Another ferry back to the USA and we stayed in Port Angeles for the night.
Day 7 – Heading down the coast of Washington seems to be rainy every time I ride it! It was a pretty soaking rain. We stayed in Astoria, OR that night.
Day 8 – Down the coast of Oregon with a stop at the Tillamook factory for coffee, snacks and tour. Lunch was in the small coastal town of Waldport, where we met up with Jennifer’s sister. We stayed in Brookings, OR that night.
Day 9 – Heading home…..lunch in Willits, then home.
All in all, we had a fun ride. And, amazingly, we all got along pretty good, helping each as needed and are talking to each other after we got home! I must say that we have some really great members in our Redwood Riders MC!
Thank you for allowing (or did I get railroaded?) me to lead our group about 2,175 miles.
