We had 20 bikes and 22 people for the ride to Middletown. It was a chilly and foggy start, but as we rode north up 101, the fog lifted, the sun came out and the temperatures warmed up. Our first rest stop was at the Chevron in Ukiah, and some layers were shed.
We continued 101 north to 20 east, riding along the north side of Clear Lake, which was not only beautiful, but the temps were in the low to mid 70’s! We then headed south on 53 to 29 and stopped at the shell in Hidden Valley for gas/rest break.
Lunch was right down the road at the Buddha Thai in Middletown. Yes, there is a Thai restaurant in Middletown, and it’s really good too! The owner was outside waiting for us when we arrived, as I had “warned” him the night before that we were coming. He and his staff did a great job of making us feel very welcome and getting us all feed quickly. 3 riders choose to eat at another restaurant in Middletown, then head down the mountain. After lunch we walked a couple doors down to the new ice cream shop for some tasty dessert. It was “Randy approved” 😀 A couple more riders needed to get home, so they chose to ride down the mountain.
The rest of the group rode out Butts Canyon to Pope Valley to Lake Berryessa. Our last stop was at the Ranger Station on the lake. We said our goodbyes and most of the group headed north up 128 towards Santa Rosa, while a few of us headed south to 121 toward Napa, Sonoma and beyond. It was a really nice ride and great group of riders!
Thanks for a super day, Gretchen
