This is one of my favorite rides. It’s not very long but it covers some of the most beautiful roads that can be found in the area. The day started off a bit cool and foggy. We still had 16 bikes ready to go at Shari’s at 9:30. We all thought the coast would be really foggy and wet. I thought the fog gods were planning against me again.
We rode from Rohnert Park to Two Rock and on to Clinano Valley Rd. Then to Wilson Hill Rd., Hicks Valley Rd. and into Nicasio for a morning pit stop. From there to Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and through Samuel P Taylor Park to the town Olema. A south turn on Hwy 1 and we followed the San Andreas Fault all the way to Stinson Beach. Much to our surprise as we approached the Stinson Lagoon the fog was gone and we were greeted with a beautiful sunny day. Maybe I’m OK with the fog gods after all!
Lunch was at a favorite hidden spot of mine, the Siren Cafe, right on the beach under the life guard station. After lunch and because of the pretty day some of the group decided to take an aggressively curvy ride up and down Mount Tam. So we split the group and about a third of the riders followed Mike Holden back up Hwy 1. The rest of us got some spectacular elevated views of the Marin coast.
Afternoon break was at the Chevron station in Point Reyes Station. We then rode up 1 along Tomales Bay and home. I was back in Santa Rosa and home by 3 o’clock.
A great ride with great people.
