It was a gorgeous day for our Sunday ride to Capay! Road Captains Wade and Gretchen led 15 bikes and riders up 101 to River Rd cutoff, just south of Hopland. We headed east on 175 over Hopland Grade to our 1st stop at Rotten Robbie’s Gas Station in Lakeport. Waiting there to join us was another member and passenger.
After the break, we headed east on 29 towards Lower Lake and 53. We then headed north on 53 to 20 east to 16 south to our next stop at Cache Creek Casino gas station for fuel. Leaving our gas stop for lunch, a member’s bike was dead. Most of us went on to Capay for lunch, and our great leader, Wade, stayed with our stranded biker until the tow truck arrived.
We ate at The Road Trip restaurant and had a nice lunch with a fine waitress. We were joined by 2 other members that drove a car. After lunch, we found out that the tow truck driver got the guy’s bike started and they met us at the restaurant. Bike died again! Found out a loose and dirty battery cable was the culprit and were able to get the bike running again. We all told him NOT to let the bike die. Wade then led us on back roads around Winters to 128, past Turtle Rock to our “goodbyes” and break stop at the boat launch at Lake Hennessy.
It was very sad to see so many miles of the burned area along our ride along 16, 128, Silverado Trail, Calistoga Rd and hwy 12.
It was a great day to ride with fun friends!
