This was a very short ride. We had 14 bikes at the start and 14 bikes when I stopped the ride and told everyone to go home, just 30 minutes after the start. When we were on the hills between Sebastopol and Freestone we hit some VERY thick fog with what might have been even a light rain. Everywhere under the trees the road was wet. From past experience in my youth as a tow truck driver, it’s that first moisture on the road every fall or winter you have to pay attention to. That first water on a road mixed with road oil accumulated after a long summer can be very dangerous. So, I stopped the ride. In retrospect we probably could have continued the ride, but at the time I went the safe route.
I apologize to everyone that came to the ride. And look forward to doing the ride again on a better day.
