Our 9-day trip was a wonderful success. We not only had a great time and nice weather, but we all got along the whole trip! I want to thank my favorite wing man/road captain Wade Roberts for helping me plan (which takes mega work) and execute the best roads.
Day 1 we left Schellville park-n-ride at 8:00 with 6 bikes and 8 riders. Our lunch was Chopped in Verdi, where Doug joined us. Great place to eat too. Dan and his niece left us at our gas stop in Ferndale to head back, and the rest of us continued to our 1st night stop in Winnemucca, NV. Drinks, pool time and dinner.
Day 2 we stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats after lunch, then on to SLC for the night. Another member Libby caught up with us about 8:30 that night, riding in from Klamath Falls, OR.
Day 3 we headed north towards Wyoming, taking some really beautiful roads. It was a shorter mileage day so we could enjoy exploring Jackson Hole, WY.
Day 4 we rode by the Grand Tetons then into Yellowstone. We didn’t get to experience Old Faithful, as a recent fire closed the road. Lunch stop in Cody, which it poured while we ate lunch. Then on to Red Lodge, MT.
Day 5 best riding ever over Beartooth Pass Hwy! Day was clear and chilly (47), but spectacular! It is a must to experience for sure! We wove in and out of northern Yellowstone (MT/WY) checking out the Bison and yet more beautiful roads. Great find for lunch in Mammoth Hot Springs. We also had road construction for miles. Needless to say, our bikes were a mess! We finally made it to Helena, MT (and the car wash!) that night.
Day 6 was Glacier National Park. Beautiful day with clear blue skies and no smoke and temps in the high 70’s. Another must ride place to enjoy, then stayed in Kalispell that night.
Day 7 took us along a beautiful river across Idaho then south to McCall, ID for the night. We experienced delays from road construction, this time waiting for blasting.
Day 8 we rode back to Winnemucca, NV for a nice evening on our last night on our adventure. Awards were presented. Libby had left us in Boise and headed back to Oregon to work.
Day 9 heading home…. quick stop at the Harley Dealer in Reno for a member’s bike. Just as I went to downshift getting off 80, my shifter rod broke. Good timing to break. Thanks to Doug for the quick repair of my new part! Martin’s bike didn’t act up at the Harley shop, so they couldn’t diagnose the problem. Sadly, his bike acted up late and had to be towed home. Lunch at Chopped in Verdi, NV and goodbye to Doug. Surprisingly, the traffic was not too bad, and we all made it home safely.
It was a great trip and a great group of people to share this experience with.
Pictures will fill in what I didn’t….
Until next time………in the Wind, Gretchen
