We had a great ride on Saturday up to Old Town Sacramento. There were 21 bikes with 21 riders, and one 4-legged passenger. Yep, Ken’s dog Reggie joined the ride.

We had 4 riders join us that found the ride on Meet Up. Amazingly, we had one that came all the way up from San Jose. He had just gotten a new bike and wanted to put some miles on it. Another came from Martinez. I am not sure where the 3rd was from but he was not a local, and the 4th was from Windsor. Thank you to them for joining us on our ride.

A great big thank you to my wingman, Wade Roberts, who made sure I turned in all the right places and didn’t leave anyone behind. I also want to thank my mid sweep, Gretchen Tomm and end sweep, Dan Schilling. Without the 3 of you, this ride would not have been as successful as it was.

Our ride started the usual way, down through Penngrove and out Adobe Road towards Hwy 121. After weaving our way thru the beautiful valleys of Sonoma, Nape, and over Jameson Canyon to Hwy 80, we hopped on Hwy 12 over to Rio Vista. This was our first gas stop, and of course more importantly, bathroom stop.

Once gassed up and feeling that sense of relief that only a bathroom can give you,(come on now, ya’ll know what I am talking about..lol) we headed out to Hwy 160 which led us along the Delta for the rest of the ride to Old Town Sacramento. If you have not ever ridden Hwy 160, you should. It is a beautiful and leisurely ride with sweeping turns and beautiful scenery. We passed the famous ice cream shop in Walnut Grove that we visit when George takes us out on his boat. Aaahhhh memories. Hopefully next year George.

Once we got to Old Town Sacramento, we parked and headed over to the Delta King River Boat for lunch. Our waiter, who was the same waiter we had last Sunday when we did the pre-ride, must have warned his crew as they gave us the entire 1st level of the outside dining area for us to have lunch. That was so considerate of them. And of course we utilized the space.

After a great lunch we climbed aboard our mighty machines and headed home. A few people decided to head straight home down the freeway while the rest of us did another short jaunt down Hwy 80 and then exited Road 32A which is a frontage road for Hwy 80. From there we headed towards Winters which was our 2nd and last gas and bathroom stop before heading home. After a short break, we said our good-byes and off we went down Hwy 128.

We ended up splitting into 2 groups at the 121/128 split. I took the 121 with 2 riders and headed towards Napa. Most of the group ended up following Wade over 128 through the Berryessa Lake area and towards Calistoga and then over to Santa Rosa. Mmmmm…..trying not to take offense to that. I mean, I do know how to find my way home folks…lol. Just kidding.

Last but not least, I have to give a big high five to Mother Nature. Truth be told, I was so worried it was going to be cold, windy and miserable and I was really dreading it. But my prayers were answered and she came through for me. I could not have asked for better weather through the entire ride. It was fabulous.

Oh….wait….. what happened to our 4 new riders you ask? Well the one from Windsor, Warren, stayed with us the entire ride. The other 3 split off towards home after lunch. They all seemed to have a good time riding with us. Hopefully, we will see them again.

Thank you to everyone for trusting me to lead you on this ride.
