We got a bit of a late start as we had a lot of folks renewing their memberships plus, we signed up 4 new members – Welcome!!
We left Shari’s at about 10:15 with 32 bikes & 33 riders. The morning was glorious, and temperatures were in the high 50’s. We proceeded north on Hwy 101 to Dry Creek Rd on to Dutcher Creek Rd. We meandered through the burg of Cloverdale on to one of my personal favorite roads, Hwy 128. As we pulled into the town of Boonville, we hooked up with on of our members who had been out riding solo. After a leg stretch and bathroom break, we took Hwy 253 over the mountain into Ukiah. The road was smooth, and traffic parted like the Red Sea. I guess 30 motorcycles in the rearview mirror tends to freak some folks out and the slower car traffic used the pull-outs to let us by.
We arrived at Stars Restaurant a few bikes short; George went and rounded up the folks that missed the turn… my bad… I mistook Tresha’s headlights for Tom’s and thought we had the group. Another 3 members joined us at the restaurant. Danny, our host at Stars was very accommodating; the service was great as was the food. We had our own tables and wait staff – a big thank you to the staff at Stars!
After a nice midday repast, some folks opted to head straight home via 101 and the remainder of the group headed south on a few backroads until we hit Old River Rd winding our way into downtown Hopland. Most of the group stopped in Cloverdale for our goodbyes; again, some folks headed straight home and a few of us followed Gary Pope on some Healdsburg back roads where I turned westward to head home, arriving there around 4:15PM.
I logged 170 miles for the day. This is one of my favorite routes with a nice combination of twisties, great scenery and decently maintained roads. Thanks to Tom Cooke and Gretchen Tomm for being sweep and mid-sweep, respectively and George Homenko for the ride photos.
